Real Estate institute is a virtual company with no physical office to visit or speak to someone in person. They claimed to have an office in Lancaster, but both tenants and landlords struggled to reach them. Everything had to be done by email, and even for repairs, tenants were required to take pictures. I used their services for one year and gave a two-month notice not to renew my contract, as I needed to renovate and have all tenants move out. Despite this, Real Estate institute allowed the tenants not to pay rent for the last two months. When the tenants finally moved out, no inspections were done, and I found my two apartments abandoned with extensive damage and trash. On top of that, Real Estate institute refused to return my keys and withheld an extra $2100 I had with them. For over a year, they have been harassing me with text messages, claiming a negative balance and adding $210 charges every two weeks. This company is extremely unprofessional and unreliable. If you're considering a virtual property management company, run away from Real Estate institute. Learn from my experience — choose a company with accountability and real support. REI helped to thoroughly prepare me for my licensing exam, and they were extremely responsive any time I reached out for help.
