Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports is the UK's premier retail store and online shop for ski and snowboard hardware, mountaineering & camping equipment and outdoor clothing.
A great selection of walking boots to meet all needs. Excellent very helpful service.
They wouldn't give me a full refund so I ended up paying over £300 to wear ski boots that were too small for me for 1 day! After looking at a few places to get ski boots fitted, I decided to go with Ellis Brigham, somewhere I frequently shopped at for years. I asked colleagues in store what the difference was between other, more specialised stores that sometimes charged for the service and they assured me that for my purposes (skiing for leisure), they would be able to do everything other stores could. During the appointment, I expressed that the boots felt small several times. I was met on different occassions with reassurance of: - rental boots are usually fitted too small to avoid customers complaining - tighter boots will help you ski better - they will loosen up as you wear them over the years I appreciate all of the above are true but after insisting, they agreed to expand the boots with a toe cap, which helped a little. However, I wore them for one day of skiing and I have never found ski boots to be THAT painful ever. After not being able to sleep much that night due to my feet and toe nails still being in pain, I went to the rental shop and asked if they could help me. I rented some new boots that were much comfier and asked the rental boot fitter to help figure out why the boots I had were so painful. They measured my feet and told me that the boots I was wearing were a size too small. I had no pain in my new rental boots that were a size larger and did not feel any issue with my skiing technique. When I got back, I went into Ellie Brigham and explained what had happened. They told me that the boots fit me and that the person in the rental shop was wrong and was trying to get me to spend money to rent new boots. I assured them that I had already rented the boots when I asked the rental boot fitter to help me and so they had no motivation. I also assured them that they most definitely were too small and I could tell from the pain my feet were in. After more reassurance that they were the right size to 'help me ski well', I challenged that they cannot help me ski at all when they are that painful and I cannot wear them. Having skied throughout my life, and with some very experienced skiers, they reassured me that they have never experienced more than discomfort, even when buying new ski boots. Unfortunately, the shop would only give me a 70% refund, despite what I see as the boots being fitted incorrectly. The manager, who seemed lovely at the time, said they would send me a discount code for the inconvenience. I never received a code. This meant that I lost £187.50 on the ski boots, plus having to pay £100 for extra luggage and £50 to rent new ski boots. So in total, I paid over £300 for a pair of ski boots that I wore for 1 day. Having previously thought highly of Ellis Brigham, I won't be shopping there again.
Was very impressed with Esther in the Meadowhall store. Very patient, knowledgeable and friendly. A credit to the store.
Bonnie at the Bristol store provided a very informative and great fitting service for a new pair of ski Head 130 ski boots. The fitting was very professional and would highly recommend using the Bristol store for ski boot fitting. Bonnie in particular is a credit to the company.
