Alfreton BHF Shop gave us clear instructions about fire labels on sofa bed, which we followed. Then driver arrives and declares it doesn’t have enough fire safety labels as the (attached) cushions needed to have a separate label besides the one attached to the frame and sewn into the mattress and refused to take it. In fact the law says that a sofa bed requires at least one permanent fire safety label attached to the main furniture item and a separate mattress label if a separate mattress is included. The permanent label must meet specific UK regulations, while the mattress itself will also have its own compliance label. The 2025 regulations removed the requirement for a separate "display label" at the point of sale. Very disappointed with BHF. Shan’t be using any of their stores ever again and cancelling my monthly donations to help me pay for the cost of having it removed commercially.

Sophie attended to give quote - she was lovely. We accepted the quote, paid and booked the clearance for 12/9/25We used your service as as we live 4 and a half hours away, wanted simple solution to the house clearance and also for the charity to be able to sell on the saleable items. We drove up ridiculously early to be there on time for the clearance which we were told would start at 0900.On the day- Staff arrived 0800. This had been changed by BHF initially from 0900 to 0830 to 0800.First question was "do you have any tools?". Given they knew 2 beds, dresser and dining table needed to be disassembled that was very poor. I found some in the house and they eventually found an IKEA flat pack assembly toolkit on their van which they struggled with.We paid for wrap/pack of glassware/ornaments/pictures/mirrors.They had absolutely NO packing materials with them. My friend and I packed it using our own materials which I handily still had in my car. We wrapped and packed all the breakables- not them. They refused to take 1 mattress as they apparently found 1 bed bug.I was VERY surprised at this, no bed bug history there and the property had been totally empty for 6 weeks so it survived a long time without 'food'. We weren't shown the bug on the mattress, just a photo on their phone later, which was a close up of a bug. I understand the policy and have happily arranged for the mattress disposal elsewhere. I remain highly sceptical as it was 1 bug, no one had been in the property for a long time and we have since checked the mattress thoroughly, we found no bugs and no evidence (blood spots) of them. Perhaps they should be told to show the client the bug 'in situ'.Whilst the house is now clear, It wasn't the service we paid for. I could not recommend this service to anyone based on the service on the day.I hope this feedback is of use to ensure your staff carry tools and packing materials where the quote is based on that service being required and paid for.

Absolute waste of time. Complete joke of a collection service - we were donating a bed frame and mattress, barely used, worth more than 1000£ … blocked the day to facilitate the collection. Guys refused to take it because we didn’t have the instructions?!? Suspect they were just too lazy to do their job and carry the heavy mattress (because yeah, guess what, it’s high quality). Don’t waste your time donating to them.

We paid well over £2000 for BHF to clear my late father's property. When the driver came to assess the property, I asked him if they would leave the place tidy, since the estate agent was showing buyers around and no one lived at Dad's anymore? He said yes, they'd tidy the house and hoover it. It was left a total mess, and we had to hire a cleaning company to go in and tidy up after the BHF.
