Thank you everyone for your 1 star reviews below! I was about to order a dishwasher from Apliance Direct, but after reading the reviews, I will stay far away from this company. Also for any customer who has been told to pay for their own return, please note that Under UK consumer law, you are not responsible for the return shipping costs of a damaged or faulty item. Your contract is with the retailer, and they are responsible for the condition of the goods until they are delivered to you.
I bought a fridge/freezer from Appliances Direct. Their actual sale is quite good. Their website offers good information about what’s available. (The search filters could be improved, as it isn’t possible to search for a product say less than a certain height. All you can do is to select *one* of the specified ranges of height, not more than one. As soon as one is selected, the option of (further) specifying height is removed.) When it came to delivery, though, the story is different. We encountered the following problems: (1) The delivery is made by just one man, even if the product is too big or too heavy for him to handle alone. In our case he needed help with getting the fridge/freezer over the front door step, and with negotiating it along the corridor. (2) The delivery man had to ask for a kitchen knife in order to cut through the enclosing cardboard. Why didn’t he carry one? (3) We had paid £25 to have them take away our old fridge for recycling. The delivery man told us he could take it only if it was already fully defrosted & dry. This is a real pain, because it takes many hours to fully de-ice and dry the fridge, so together with the fact that one has to wait a couple of hours before the new freezer is cold enough to use, this makes the whole process of transferring contents from the old fridge to the new challengingly difficult. (In our case, Applicances Direct did agree to collect our old fridge a couple of days later, but this was only because they had forgotten to send us an email warning us of the requirement to have the old fridge perfectly dry.) (4) The so-called “installation” of the new fridge does not include levelling it. (5) Also, although the fridge we bought was specified as having “reversible doors”, i.e. changeable on which side the doors open, the “installation” does not include reversing the doors. For this service, they would have demanded a further £148. On top of all this, they provided inaccurate & misleading information about the manufacturer’s warranty. They said is was for just one year, but in fact it’s a free service for two years, included in the purchase price. Moreover, the manufacturer’s warranty can be extended to 5 years or 10 years, at a much lower cost than the warranty that Applicances Direct try to sell you. So in all, Appliances Direct are a good source of domestic products, but you have to be very careful in your dealing with them.
