United StatesMy husband and I donated a 2019 Mercedes Benz E450. 35,000 miles. The car was in almost perfect conditionWe turned down a $29,400 trade in. We now receive an email for a $500.00 donation!We will never ever donate to vehicles for veterans again. We love veterans don’t judge us. Both our fathers served in WW11. Very professional, was conducted in a timely matter
We felt something would come to us automatically as to what the car sold for at auction. We needed that figure for our tax deduction. If my memory serves me correctly, I was given the opinion by someone within your organization that I could use the auction amount or the fair market value. Eventually, after a phone call, I was told it sold at auction for $500. I presented that figure to our accountant, as well as several printouts from Google indicating the fair market value of our donated car being between $1,300 and $3,200, (depending on condition.) My accountant chuckled and said the fair market value means nothing... we can only deduct the amount for which it was sold. We are ok with that and happy the car went to a good cause. Why we are disappointed, and why we can only give a 3-star rating can be found in our words above.
