GBGBI recently purchased meat from a company advertising on Facebook. I’ve bought meat online from other suppliers before without any problems, so I didn’t think much of placing an order.My order was placed on 25 February and delivered on 28 February. Most of the meat went straight into the freezer.A few days later I took out a packet of lean diced steak and noticed something that immediately concerned me. There was a label stuck over another label on the packaging.After removing the top label, I found the original label underneath showed:Packed on: 23.02.26Use by: 02.03.26However, the label placed over the top shows:Packed on: 26.02.26Use by: 05.03.26This effectively changes the packing and use-by dates by three days.I contacted the company about this. They attempted to call once from a withheld number, and there is no public telephone number available to contact them directly.Because of the seriousness of food labelling and safety, I have contacted Environmental Health through my local council and I’m waiting to speak with them. I will provide them with the packaging and photos if requested.Due to this issue, I will not be eating the remaining meat from this order as I no longer feel confident about its safety.I would advise anyone purchasing meat online to check packaging carefully, especially if a label appears to be placed over another label.
GBGBWouldn’t even give a 1 star. Especially for the lamb mince. The first time they said it was 10% fat, I used the chat function and emailed to ask if that was possible they said yes. The entire pack was basically fat. They gave me a refund and said this was not their usual standard. I give it the benefit of the doubt and order again along with some steaks and short rib. I email and DM to ask for the ribs to be cut and they say that’s fine. I receive the pack and low & behold. Nothing was cut, the lamb was once again practically 80% fat and the steaks were not cut properly. I tried!
